#TBT in Photos: When OKash Reignited Dying Embers of Hope

A year ago, OKash Foundation - a corporate social programme by mobile loan lender OKash - cut hills and valleys across the country with one thing in mind, to reignite dying hopes. 

As schools reopened in January, before the academic calendar was rudely cut short later in March by coronavirus pandemic, OKash Foundation was traversing Kenya and sponsoring needy and bright students whose education was in a limbo for lack of school fees. 

When we sought to find out from OKash why they were sponsoring students and not any other thing, the answer that we got was that, OKash believes education to be instrumental in inculcating a responsible borrowing culture among people.

"Borrowing should not be a source of pain and misery but relief and joy because someone is there for you to extend some help when you badly need it. However, this has not been always the case mostly because of bad borrowing culture and trends." 

"That is why OKash is empowering our people through education and financial literacy initiatives to ensure they are able to make informed borrowing decisions," OKash Foundation told 254 NewsDay. 

Well,  it was not about lip-service because we indeed witnessed it and below are just but a few of the cases that we documented then.
