OKash Foundation intervenes yet again reigniting dying embers of a 17-year-old girl's quest for education

Jane Wambui from Murang'a County has become the latest beneficiary of OKash Foundation continued support of bright and needy students across the country.

Wambui who scored 318 marks in 2019 KCPE and was selected to join Ng'araria Girls High School based in Kandara, Murang'a County, was still stuck in the village contemplating her next move when OKash intervened and paid her school fees worth Sh70,000 while also buying her other school goodies.

Speaking to 254 NewsDay on Tuesday when she reported to Ng'araria Girls High School, Wambui who was accompanied by her both parents, could not hide her joy as her dream to pursue secondary school education had just become a reality.

"I am so grateful to OKash Foundation for making it possible for me to pursue secondary school education at the school I had been selected and called to join between January 13 and 17 but I couldn't for lack of fees. I promise OKash and the entire management that I won't let their noble efforts go to waste as I will study hard and catch up with the rest," Wambui said wiping tears of joy that were welling in her eyes and flowing effortlessly down her cheeks.

Speaking at the same time, Wambui's parents thanked the OKash team for the timely intervention that saw their daughter's education which had hit a rocky patch for lack of money, reignited.

"I am a witness that OKash Foundation is a friend in need and deed. It came to my daughter's assistance even when I did not know about it. As I leave here to go home, I will have nothing to tell my friends in the village apart from how happy OKash has made me and my entire family. Jane is hardworking and I am sure she won't let you down," she said as Jane's father shook his head in agreement.

The school's Deputy Principal Mrs Macharia, said the school was still maintaining Wambui's slot anticipating she would still report and take it up and was glad that OKash had jumped in and made it a reality for the parties involved.

OKash Ag Director Mr Peter Kaiga on his part, noted that OKash Foundation in the last two months had supported over six other such cases in different counties as it seeks to empower 'Kenya's future generation of leaders' academically.

"We have chosen to support needy and bright kids to pursue their education as we believe an educated populace is what our country needs most to move forward."

"We shall continue to support more other cases as a way of giving back to our loyal OKash customers who have kept us going since we entered the digital lenders market in 2018," Kaiga said while requesting Jane and other past beneficiaries to work hard and become successful in their future endeavours.
