A shocking incident in Uganda's Kayunga District has left a group of worshippers disillusioned and calling for a cleansing ceremony. On Tuesday, a couple was caught engaging in a sexual act at the altar of a church, causing outrage among the community.
The couple involved in the scandal consisted of a married 23-year-old Catholic man and his recently divorced Muslim lover.
The man's wife discovered them in the act and raised the alarm, attracting the attention of nearby residents.
According to reports, the couple had accessed the church through the windows as the doors were shut. They were apprehended by angry residents and taken to the Bugonya LC1 chairman's office.
The chairman, George William Kanda, initially filed a promiscuity case against them but later released them.
Since the incident, the man has gone into hiding, and his whereabouts are currently unknown. However, Kanda assured that he will be held accountable for his actions when he resurfaces.
The faithful of the Bugonya Church of Uganda, deeply disturbed by the sacrilegious act, are now calling on church leaders to organize a cleansing ceremony to purify the premises.
The church leaders have also urged their followers to observe a period of fasting for an undisclosed number of days to seek forgiveness and spiritual healing in the wake of this sinful incident.
