Ugandan Police Officers Arrested After Robbers Reveal They Recovered Only Half the Stolen Money

Ten police officers stationed in Kampala, Uganda, were detained after they were discovered to have declared only a portion of the money they had recovered from a robbery case.

The Daily Monitor reported that the thieves had stolen $110,000 and Euro700 from a Burundi national who had left a forex bureau in Makindye area. The man fainted as a result of the incident but was aided by Good Samaritans who revived him.

One of the rescuers informed a police informer about the crime, but the officers reportedly did not inform their superiors about the incident and went ahead to track down the robbers on their own.

The officers later located the thieves in the Masajja area and recovered the cash. However, they declared only $20,000 and Euro500, claiming that was all they had found.

The suspects who had been arrested and detained revealed that the officers had only declared less than half of what they had taken from the robbers' hideout.

The officers were detained for 48 hours at the Katwe police station, where the thieves were being held, before being released on bond while investigations are ongoing. According to the police spokesman, the officers' homes will be searched in a bid to recover the missing cash.
