OKash, Partners Agree on the Urgency to Professionalize Kenya's Debt Collection Landscape

Tumultuous journey! Nobody ever said it would be easy changing the debt collection landscape in Kenya, Africa and the world, Joseph Maina, Co-Founder & CEO Collectr Kenya, acknowledged at the end of a debt collection training workshop aimed at imparting professional skills on Friday.

The workshop held at a Naivasha hotel was organized by Collectr, a credit risk management solutions company. Collectr professional partners, CIS Kenya and the International Centre for Professional Collections, were in attendance.

OKash, the leading micro-lending product of OPay & a Fintech subsidiary of OPera group, was also represented as well as Sunculture, an SME that provides a turnkey solar-powered irrigation solution tailored for the needs of smallholder farmers.

All the groups present were unequivocally in agreement at the end of the workshop on the urgency to raise the bar in debt collection through concerted professionalization efforts.

"We are deliberate. From the banking industry, microfinance, saccos, Fintechs, to pay-as-you-go companies, it is an open secret that we are onto something here. We are revamping the "C" in debt collection to only connote customer-centricity. It can no longer stay silent," Maina added.

Maina more so applauded the OKash team for attending the event dubbed 'Supercharge Your Collections Series 3' in what he termed as "in the spirit of disseminating knowledge and sharing experiences".

OKash and the other corporate groups on the other hand hailed Collectr for excellent course delivery.

"Trainer has vast knowledge in the field and has mastered communication, and coaching skills. Time usage was efficient and catered for group discussion, Q&A sessions, revision etc. Course is well structured, and tailored to solve practical issues," the participants said of the organizer who had also arranged for accomodation, catering services, ZOOM meetings among other trainer-support services.
