Raila Odinga is no doubt the Kenyan version of a proverbial phoenix bird. Many are the times his enemies have thought him dead, politically that's only for him to resurface, stronger and vibrant.
2017 elections were preceded with theatrics between NASA and Jubilee government, it took the will power of Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to extinguish the flames which nearly razed the country.
The Handshake has given Agwambo a new lifeline with BBI reloading his empty magazine. Though Jomo's son has leaped big from his camaraderie with Raila, should the tables turn, Uhuru is set to lose with William and Jakom winning. How is that possible?
UhuRaila Handshake saw Ruto and his entourage detaching themselves from Jubilee government, they are outsiders within and this has given William a chance to revamp himself. He has managed to raise a battalion and this has increased his 2022 odds.
On the other hand, Raila and his team are still gambling, they are staking on BBI and Uhuru's goodwill and should the cord break, they will have no option but to restart their course and by then, their primary competitor will be miles away.
Like in 2002 when Nyayo (read Daniel Arap Moi) betrayed senior members of KANU party, Raila will be short of time to consolidate himself and sense demands one to join forces with an already established entity as Jakom did decades ago when he joined Mwai Kibaki's Democratic Party (DP).
By detaching himself from Kenyatta's son and embedding his course with Ruto's, chances of Raila been part of government in 2022 are practical. All Baba needs is to be cautious and in all scenarios, he should keep his eyes open to spot unusual signals from Uhuru's side.
