After
reading Isaiah’s 61:1-2 text, Jesus of Nazareth announced the unexpected, he
crowned himself the promised messiah (read Luke 4:21). Though his eloquence
impressed the congregation, he was accused of blasphemy and he eloped death by
whisker as Pharisees wanted to throw him over the cliff. They couldn’t fathom
how the son of a peasant village carpenter with zero political inclination can
be a messiah.
The
very stone the builders rejected turned out to be a cornerstone. Jesus’
tentacles spread over the land of Galilee and beyond, after enduring
temptations, humiliations, frustrations and hatred from his enemies, he is
currently sitting on the right side of his father, God. He is the cord between
Christians and God.
Worthy
a discussion is the tactic Jesus used to win hearts, his ministry has since
gained billions of followers worldwide. Kenya’s first deputy president and 2022
presidential hopeful William Ruto is no doubt using Jesus’
“Feed-the-poor-conquer-the-word’’ strategy.
There
exists an array of parallelism between Jesus and Ruto, the duo were born in
humble backgrounds, faced rejection and betrayals from their close allies,
their fortunes grew exponentially and more notably, Ruto is presently using
Jesus’ strategy to win hearts of Kenyans.
Luke
4:18 outlines Jesus’ mission on earth which entailed; bringing good tidings to
the poor, proclaiming liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind
and to set free the oppressed. This he did achieve courtesy of his pragmatic
strategies, hardwork, persistent and through the unwavering support people gave
him.
The man
from Sugoi is staking his 2022 chances on God and the people. Kenya’s social
setting is divided into distinct groups; the overlings and the underlings. The
later group constitutes the larger fraction of Kenyans whose lives are riddled
with suffering, adversity and discontentment. This is the group that will give
William a catalytic push in the forthcoming presidential race.
Like
Jesus, Samoei has established a good rapport with his followers and as the book
of Matthew 5:5 puts it; The meek shall inherit the earth a thing Ruto is about
to. The holy writ has many instances where Jesus freely mingled with the lowly
and dejected members of the society among them prostitutes, men with leprosy,
tax collectors, name them. Though the overly righteous beings condemned him, he
heard none of it. He shared meal with them, freely intermingled and many are
the times he provided them with their daily requirements, 'Yesu alikuwa mtu wa watu'.
Ruto’s political ideology is centred in empowering the hustlers through donations, creating conducive business enabling environment and supporting SMEs. He has also gone an extra mile to create a good good network with his followers by mixing with them freely. Akufaaye kwa dhiki ndiye rafiki quipped a wiseman, people’s army will undoubtedly stand with him when the time comes and chances are, ‘’feed-the-poor-conquor-the-world’’ strategy will once reign, with Wiliam Ruto as the propagator this time.
