Iraq-Based Lawyer Who Saved William Ruto From ICC Fangs

Literally, misfortunes like a shining mark and this could be the probable reason why William Ruto has been an haunted lot. Ruto is among the luckiest beings in the country and hitherto, he has managed to register massive victory in his personal and political life.


At the age of 26 he was one of the main arteries of KANU. At 31, he become Eldoret North MP after beating the seasoned Reuben Cheshire. At 47, he become the country's first deputy president and acting president respectively. Presently he is among the presidential hopefuls whose odds of occupying statehouse are probable and practical.

Despite of his political and personal stardom, the son of Daniel and Sarah has severally been thrusted into a political furnace but unbelievably, he has often bailed himself out. In 2010, Ruto found himself in a mess this was after his name was adversely mentioned alongside Uhuru Kenyatta, Henry Kosgei, Francis Muthaura, Mohammed Ali and Joshua Sang whoe were believed to be the architects of 2007/2008 post election violence.

The violence saw tens of hundreds losing their lives with hundreds of thousands being rendered vagrants. Dozens also sustained physical and psychological injuries as women were assaulted sexually.

William was accused of perpetuating three crimes against humanity namely; Murder, forcible transfer of population and persecution. Legally, any suspect is deemed until proven guilty and the process of indicting or vindicting William began.

Samoei hired the best legal minds in the country and beyond. After years of shots, Ruto was acquitted on 5th of April 2016. Of the legal brains that worked around the clock to save the hustler's clerk from ICC fangs is Iraq-based lawyer Karim Ahmad Khan.

Born in 1970, Khan is British lawyer and a specialist in International Criminal Law and International Human Rights Law. He is currently serving as the Assistant Secretary General of UN as a special advisor and head of UN investigative team for UNITAD.

Karim is famed for representing famous figures in legal battles among them former president of Liberia Charles Taylor (2006-2007), Sudanese rebel Bahr Idriss Abu Garda (2008-2011), Deputy Prime Minister of Kosovo Fatmir Limaj among others.
