Dissection of Raila's February 20 Declaration, What it Means for Ruto

Jakom has affirmed that Musalia, Kalonzo and Wetangula failed him immensely when they failed to show up during his mock swearing-in ceremony.

For decades now, Raila Odinga has been on the nucleus of the country's politics. In his lifetime, he has served in various ministerial, elective and managerial capacities. On the top of his political CV is his tenure as Kenya's second Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013.

As 2022 politicking season takes shape, the veteran has once again found himself entrapped in its course. Raila is among the presidential hopefuls who are hyped to succeed Jomo's son who will be folding his political mats in months time.

Agwambo's dying political embers were rekindled by the handshake between him and Uhuru Kenyatta. His magazine that had ran dry in 2017 battle was reloaded and this is the very bullet he is looking forward to use in 2022 presidential battle.

Of his greatest competitors is former Eldoret North MP William Ruto. There have been a number of diverging theories explaining Raila's 2022 presidential prospects but that is no longer an issue of contention.

Speaking on 20 February, 2021, the ODM doyen absolved himself from NASA's 2017 pre-election pact that bound him to return hand and support one of his co-principals in 2022 presidential race.

Jakom has affirmed that Musalia, Kalonzo and Wetangula failed him immensely when they failed to show up during his mock swearing-in ceremony thus the idea of him handing the power baton to either of them is far fetched and impractical.

A dissection of Raila's declaration births an array of the probables which will greatly change the course of Ruto's political moves. The first possibility is that of Agwambo going for the top seat for the fifth time.

Literally, there is no way Baba can leave the political stage without handing the power baton to his preferred successor. Since he has ruled out that feat, its certain his name will be on the presidential ballot come 2022 and predictably, he will pass over the baton to his heir in 2027 or thereafter. Now, Ruto should start devising pragmatic strategies to humble Jakom.

Like John the Baptist who prepared the way for the Messiah, rumours in political corridors have it that RAO is molding an invisible candidate ahead of 2022 duel. Hitherto, he has held meetings with a number of 2022 presidential hopefuls among them the former Unictad SG Mukhisa Kituyi and Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana.

Let it be known that Agwambo's greatest mission is not that of him occupying Statehouse but giving Kenyans a better alternative of leadership and more notably ensure Ruto does not take the wheel after Uhuru Kenyatta. Its said that Mukhisa is a state project and since rumours have some iota of truth, time will tell.

A second observation from Raila's declaration is; Raila won't pass the baton to NASA leaders but he can to somebody else and Ruto should prepare himself to flaunt whatever the surprise his opponents presents forth in his path.
