Why Kenya Airways is Abbreviated as KQ and not KA

You might have wondered why Kenya Airways is abbreviated as KQ and not KASurprisingly, long before Kenya Airways levitated to the serene skies in 1977, there existed the abbreviation KA.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) which assigns codes to Airports and Airlines extended the KA abbreviation to Korea in 1969.

Notably, KQ was birthed amid the dissolution of East African Airways that operated between 1945-1977.
