A section of Mt Kenya residents have been regretting waking up early in 2017 on August 8 and October 26 polls to vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta.
This is due to harsh economic conditions that have seen many businesses closed and people losing jobs at a time multi-billion corruption scandals have been reported in Uhuru's government.
But what mostly has made many voters in the populous region develop dislike for their political kingpin is the apparent 'betrayal' of his deputy William Ruto.
During the 2013 and 2017 elections, Uhuru repeatedly said he would rule for 10 years and pass the baton to Ruto to serve for another 10 years.
However, barely months after he was sworn in for a second term, Uhuru dumped his deputy and embraced his long-time nemesis Raila Odinga and is said to be keen to ensure the ODM boss takes over from him.
In the light of these reports, many in the 'House of Mumbi' have vowed to punish Uhuru in the 2022 elections by voting for Ruto to become country's fifth head of state.
"Kikuyus plan to vote for Ruto to punish Uhuru. Absurd as it may sound, Kikuyus have resolved to give President Uhuru the contempt card because he has already shown he doesn’t want Ruto to succeed him," notes veteran journalist Dauti Kahura.
"After re-electing him for a difficult second time, the Kikuyus are bitter with President Uhuru for exposing them by not grooming a fellow Kikuyu to succeed him. Instead he looks like he’s rooting for Raila," Kahura wrote in The Elephant, a Nairobi-based publication.
Reacting to the sentiments, controversial blogger Cyprian Nyakundi warned the Kikuyu community against voting for Ruto claiming he is 'worse' than Uhuru they seek to teach a lesson.
In a tweet on Monday, Nyakundi alleged the DP was the reason why the prices for electricity have been rising abnormally as he was behind the cartels in the energy sector.
"As Central Kenya celebrates #RutoAt54 to punish Uhuru, they should know that he is worse and will steal Kenya to a grinding halt. He caused power prices to rise by 400%. Watajua hawajui," the blogger posted.
