As 2022 elections race gain momentum a good number of MPs find themselves between a rock and a hard place after a law requiring them to be degree holders in order to run for any parliamentary seat is set to take effect in the coming polls.

The law which has been postponed severally was proposed by the IEBC and passed in 2016 but failed to be effected in the 2017 polls. It requires all aspirants for the national assembly and county assembly seats, MPs and the MCAs to be at least degree holders from a recognized university. The practicality of the law being effected has sent fears to more than 100 out of the 349 MPs of the possibility of being sent to political oblivion.

With less than 22 months remaining to the next polls it might not be possible for the MPs who have been caught unawares to rush in universities to enroll for any degree programmes. Usually degree programmes take four years for one to fully complete them and graduate, giving more reasons why the only option at hand is for the MPs to oppose the law for their political survival.

Adversely affected are two legislators from the deputy president's inner circle who ironically are said to be playing a key role in his 2022 State House succession matrix. The two MPs Education qualifications provided in the Parliament's Official Website disclosed that their academic qualifications are below bar and if the law is adhered to they might be serving their last terms as MPs.

Kimani Ngunjiri

The Bahati Member of Parliament is a fearless, vocal and controversial law maker who unapologetically tells the king he is naked without blinking his eyes. Ngunjiri has been on the forefront defending William Ruto and has on record of times reminded Uhuru Kenyatta to pay Ruto's 'debt'. Unfortunately, Ngunjiri is likely to be shown the door by the law. Ngunjiri's highest education qualification is secondary school certificate from Michinda Secondary school.

Oscar Sudi

Kapseret Member of Parliament is among the close allies to deputy president William Ruto. He has often defended the Dp fearlessly from any attack aimed at him making him a key member in Ruto's inner circle. However, if the new law is anything to go by the Dp must be ready to loose Sudi as a close associate if he manages to form the next government. Sudi's highest education attainment is a diploma in Business Management from Kenya Institute of Management.
