Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua has received a serious backlash from a section of Kenyans after he claimed that his Maendeleo Chap Chap party would take over all top leadership positions in the Executive arm of government if he wins 2022 presidential elections.

According to Mutua, Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) was prepared to occupy all leadership posts created by the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report, including the offices of Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers.

".....I believe we will also be...holding the position of the Prime Minister because we want to ensure that we take over everything," said Mutua.

This follows after the vocal governor held a meeting with delegates of his political outfit to deliberate on their future, particularly the 2022 elections.

After the discussions Mutua addressed a press conference outside his office where he exuded confidence of emerging victorious in the anticipated State House race. He revealed that that delegates of his party had resolved to absolutely back his candidature.

His speech was shared by Daily Nation on Monday.

He noted that Kenyans were tired of status quo, poor leadership and bad economy, and therefore, he was poised to change the situation.

However, his sentiments infuriated Kenyans who castigated him for exhibiting selfish leadership ambitions instead of telling them how he wished to transform their lives when he becomes president.

Some bashed Mutua and other politicians who were engaging in succession politics while the country continues to suffer due to the implications of the novel Coronavirus (COVID-2019).

A number continued to cast doubts on whether the BBI report was actually meant to address the issue of 'winner takes it all' or its intention was to worsen the same.

"Bogus, pretending to be a levelheaded leader but in real sense has nothing to offer except yearning for political positions through BBI and mysterious handshake between the two men," said Edward Kigaru.

This happens amidst the move by the BBI proponents, led by president Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga to popularize the recently released BBI report.

Nevertheless, BBI has experienced major setbacks after a section of Kenyans, among them Christian religious groups rejected some of its proposals. They are opposed to expansion of Executive arm of government, appointment of Judiciary ombudsman and creation of police council.
