Tyrants Need no Excuse: Why Uhuru Won't Just Stop CSs From Politicking and Attacking Ruto

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has questioned President Uhuru Kenyatta's silence as Cabinet secretaries use State resources for political purposes while attacking Deputy President William Ruto in public functions.

This is after Environment CS Keriako Tobiko while in the company of Interior and Health Fred Matiang’i and Mutahi Kagwe respectively, on Thursday criticized DP Ruto for what they said was campaigning for 2022 instead of serving Kenyans.

The accusations and counter-accusations between Tobiko and Murkomen which on Friday saw them trade ugly barbs publicly, comes at a time when the rift between Uhuru and Ruto continues to widen.

It is, however, interesting that Murkomen expects Uhuru to reprimand his CSs for defending him against the missiles being fired by Ruto's footsoldiers with Murkomen at the forefront of this brigade.

Even though the law forbids CSs and other government officers from engaging in politics, it would be very naïve for Team Ruto to expect Uhuru to punish them for that.

Hasn't Uhuru himself in his capacity as President shown us on several occasions that he doesn't give a hoot about the rule of law regardless of the ramifications of that?

Therefore, the earlier that Murkomen and others sympathetic of Ruto can accustom themselves to this status quo, the better.

As the Cat and the Cock fable teaches us, a tyrant needs no excuse, no law, no apologies or anything to execute or not, what they are hellbent on doing.

The Cat and the Cock

A Cat caught a Cock and thought about reasonable excuses for eating him. He accused him of being a nuisance by crowing at night; not letting men sleep.

The Cock defended his action by saying his crowing was actually for the benefit of men, as it wakes them for labour. The Cat replied, "you are full of apologies and excuses, but it’s time for breakfast." At that, he made a meal of the Cock.

As such, when a tryrant, in power, decides to satisfy his appetite in any respect, innocence, law or even merit, can't be a stumbling block.

Murkomen's bitter protests too, have no more influence on Uhuru's undertakings, just as the gentle evening breeze doesn't upon the oak when it whispers among its branches.

For power resting in the hands of a man who has more regard to the gratification of his own greed than the aspirations of the people, can only be solved by one thing.

The realization that the consent and harmless compliance of majority, is the reason why a minority of dishonest men continue to steer them to their worst misfortunes. But doesn't it all principally owe to the stupidity of the majority?

A question to Murkomen would therefore be; Why trust a man a moment longer, who has once injured and betrayed you? Methinks it's time they gathered their spoils, get after it and get it done!

Uhuru, like the cat, won't be backtracking on whatever he has decided as regards to Ruto. The die is cast; it is time for 'breakfast!'
