Dear Safaricom PLC ,
You have been filling our inboxes with promo messages of “Buy personalized data and get free 500MB of data” and others like ”Dial *544# and select 0 to unlock your 500MB data.
By Collins Wanderi
Ehe...so a hardworking Kenyan wakes up at 6am, follows all the steps, subscribes for daily auto renewal but curiously the 500MB is never awarded.
No explanation. Calls customer care. Some rude young chaps you got there tell your customer, oh be patient, oh system is down, oh we have escalated, oh our technical team is sorting it out, 'na kadhalika'.
Meanwhile, the free data expires at midnight even before it is awarded, waoh! This is a SCAM, misrepresentation and false advertising. When you use false promises to sell a product, you are culpable for the tort of misrepresentation.
If your system is down and you cannot meet your part of the bargain, stop the promo messaging too and offer an apology.
But it is understandable. SafariCon is now headed by a Kenyan, and we have peculiar habits. Scamming is our second name.
SHORT STORY: In 2001, many years before majority of your rude customer service reps were in primary school, your main competitor had 5 times, yes 5 times your then market share. You know what happened and why they are where they are!
Corporate arrogance is an indicator and a red flag for fraudulent activities. If you steal cents, you consider your customers as having no sense. Thank you .
Yours shareholder, customer for 20+ years, Forensic Auditor and Certified Fraud Examiner.
