"We cannot recognize the Uhuru we voted for. He kept making unprovoked promises about serving for 10 years before his deputy does another 10. Today, he has employed the kicking-away-the-ladder concept, where he is using every way to push Ruto out," Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen told Citizen TV on Wednesday.
Murkomen added that he and other close confidants of Ruto cannot place a finger on any single thing that can be said to have triggered the president's disdain for his deputy including sending emissaries like David Murathe to abuse him.
So, Murkomen and other Ruto's supporters can no longer recognize the Uhuru they voted for? What a naïve admittance? Didn't they know that President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto were not cut from the same cloth?
May be to help Murkomen and others astounded by Uhuru's 'betrayal' of Ruto, I need to tell you a story that will help you understand that nature exceeds nurture. Uhuru hasn't betrayed Ruto. He is simply being himself. His true self.
Venus and The Cat
A cat fell in love with a handsome young man, and entreated Venus to change her into the form of a woman. Venus consented to her request and transformed her into a beautiful damsel, so that the youth saw her and loved her, and took her home as his bride.
While the two were reclining in their chamber, Venus wishing to discover if the Cat in her change of shape had also altered her habits of life, let down a mouse in the middle of the room.
The Cat, quite forgetting her present condition, jumped from the couch and pursued the mouse, wishing to eat it. Venus was much disappointed and again caused her to return to her former self that her manners and person might be agreeable to each other.
Upon this fable, the awkwardness that we now see from Uhuru's machinations against Ruto, is nothing but his true rustic nature. Yes, that which the embroidery of his coat could no longer conceal. Uhuru was never for Ruto and he knew it right from 2013.
As such, Murkomen and company should save their energy for the rugged terrain ahead, instead of wasting it looking for a needle in a haystack by trying to find where Ruto could have gone wrong. He didn't and he hasn't.
It is the Cat that went back to its roots where its manners and person are in harmony - talk of the so-called dynasties.
